Fields of Lettuce

Well, at least someday. Here is a picture of the lettuce that I am attempting to grow (ala: Eric Nakamura's blog).I'm not green thumbed, but when my Grandpa graduated into retirement, he became a farmer and thus everything I know about farming is based on what I watched him do. I used regular potting soil, kept them in direct sunlight and water everyday. Any other suggestions out there?

You're going to have to thin those out a bit -way too many plants per pot. Lettuce can get fairly large.

And be sure to harvest before they bolt (and they will).

...And be sure to harvest before they bolt. Can you explain what bolt is? Like grow gi-normous?

Bolting is when they suddenly shoot up and start to flower. You want to harvest them as much as you can before that when the leaves are still tender.
